Day 1 came as a bit of a shock!
I thought I was in good shape but I was having a really bad day. I started to doubt whether I had done enough training. I had changed my training from last year. Out with the mega long rides in with the high quality hard for 3 to 4 hour rides etc. All day I was behind schedule trying to ride at mainly fat burning intensity to save energy.

I can’t remember much about the riding this day, most of it did not feel like fun and there was so much pushing/carrying your bike it made the ‘3 Peaks’ feel easy. I made the cut off time by 15mins. I was exhausted, wet and miserable and really could not understand why I had entered this event if this was how it made me feel.
Then without warning the sun started shining and everything was fine. |
